PELVIC HEALTH
“Your pelvic floor influences how you move, breathe, lift and show up in every day life.”
— Dr. Kayla Culleny
PELVIC Floor
Pelvic floor physical therapy is a specialized area of rehabilitation focused on the muscles, connective tissues, and nerves that support the bladder, bowel, and reproductive organs. These structures play a vital role in core stability, continence, sexual function, and overall well-being. This therapy addresses concerns such as urinary leakage, bowel issues, pelvic pain, vaginal heaviness or pressure and discomfort during pregnancy, postpartum recovery, or everyday activities.
Pelvic floor physical therapy is appropriate for people of all genders and life stages—not just those who are pregnant or postpartum. Treatment is individualized and may include targeted exercises, manual therapy, movement retraining, and education to restore function, reduce symptoms, and empower you to feel more at ease and in control of your body.

Common Questions
What should I expect during my first visit?
Your first visit includes a detailed conversation about your symptoms, goals, medical history, and daily routines. A thorough physical exam may include posture assessment, movement testing, breathing mechanics, and—with your consent—a pelvic floor exam (internal or external). Everything is explained and nothing is done without your permission. Wear comfortable clothing that allows movement.
Do I have to have an internal pelvic exam?
No. Internal exams can provide helpful information, but they are never required. There are many effective ways to evaluate and treat the pelvic floor without an internal assessment. Your comfort and boundaries guide the entire session.
What does treatment involve?
Treatment is customized but may include:
-
Education on habits, posture, and lifestyle factors
-
Manual therapy (internal or external)
-
Breathing and core coordination
-
Pelvic floor relaxation or strengthening
-
Dry needling (if appropriate)
-
Mobility and strength training
-
Home exercises to reinforce progress
Do I need a physician referral?
In Georgia, most people can begin with direct access, meaning you can schedule without a referral. If a referral becomes necessary for continued care or insurance reimbursement (if you plan to submit superbill), your therapist will guide you through the process.
When is pelvic floor appropriate for pregnant or postpartum concerns?
Anytime — truly.
Pelvic physical therapy is safe and beneficial at any stage of pregnancy and any stage postpartum, whether you’re navigating your first trimester or years postpartum. It is never too late to prioritize your pelvic health. You can begin as early as 2 weeks postpartum with gentle guidance, and care is valuable after both vaginal and cesarean births. Your body deserves support whenever you’re ready.

Our wellness programs are designed for individuals who want to improve their overall health, mobility, and function—even if they’re not dealing with an injury or medical diagnosis. Whether your goal is to prevent future issues, optimize movement, manage stress, or simply feel better in your body, our one-on-one sessions are tailored to support your unique lifestyle. Dry Needling
Dry needling is a targeted technique that uses thin, sterile needles to release trigger points, reduce muscle tension, and improve mobility. It can be an effective way to address pain, tightness, and movement limitations caused by overuse, stress, or injury. When combined with individualized exercise and manual therapy, dry needling helps reset muscle function, enhance recovery, and support your return to comfortable, efficient movement.
Manual Therapy
Manual therapy is a hands-on approach used to assess, treat, and improve movement and function by targeting soft tissues and joints directly. Techniques may include mobilization, manipulation, and soft tissue work, all designed to reduce pain, improve mobility, and promote healing. By blending expert touch with clinical insight, manual therapy enhances your body’s natural recovery and supports your return to optimal movement and performance.
